The race director, Denise Smith, also happens to be my physical therapist. I’ve wanted to volunteer at her race for the past few years but always seem to have something going on during the first Sunday in August, so I was pretty pumped to look at my calendar and see that I had ZERO plans this year.
30:44 (1:37/100 pace), 3rd out of the water
The swim was essentially a triangle around three islands in the quarry. The sight buoys were great and the turn buoys were fun objects (swan, unicorn and flamingo). Honestly, my arms were like jello which I kind of expected having just done a 100-mile bike two days prior and another 30-mile “focus on staying aero” ride the day before. I was just training through this race so knew I might be sore, but did not expect my arms to feel so blah so quickly! Looking at my results compared to Door County (where I had my second fastest ever 70.3 swim), I was only 1 second/100 slower pace wise so I’ll totally take that!
I don’t have much to say about this besides that these pictures show my awesome fumble with my wetsuit. My foot totally got stuck on the timing chip and I literally fell onto the ground to get it off…. So then just put my shoes on while sitting. It was hands down the least pro transition of the day I bet, and lucky for me, my dad documented it for your viewing pleasure! ;)
41:18 (6:37 pace) for 10k
As I got onto the run, my legs actually didn’t feel any better than if I had biked before! Again, I didn’t taper for this race so totally expected to not feel fresh. But, I also knew that there were only two people in front of me and that they were both guys so wasn’t super motivated to push hard.
