For the second day in a row, my body decided sleeping past 6am would be a bad idea. Fortunately, I was still getting 8+ hours of sleep, and even better was that the sun was already out! Ryan and I made our way down to Dig Me Beach to stop at the Gatorade tent before getting our swim in. I was participating in a Sweat Study for them and wore a patch on my arm to collect my sweat. I swam 20 minutes out and just over 20minutes back in the rather choppy water. I really love being able to do tests and see the research that comes out of it. I also found out that I sweat a pretty decent amount while swimming, which obviously is good to know!
The Thursday before the Ironman World Championships is best known for the Underpants Run. Ryan made us cute little anniversary swim suits 5 years ago, and we are definitely getting our money’s worth by wearing them every year! I really enjoy participating in this because (1) it reminds us to not take things too seriously, and (2) all of the money donated goes to charity! It’s always fun to catch up with other friends and also look at the creative outfits each year.
We were all pretty hungry, so headed to a new place that Ryan found on our way to dinner last night: Kalikala Cuisine. Their menu was small and pricey, but their food was delicious and the presentation of it was on point. For those thinking of trying it out, it’s more expensive than Lava Java (aka 2 coffees + 2 breakfasts cost about $35 at Lava Java versus $42 at Kalikala Cuisine).
Ryan and I headed back to our room to relax a bit (after a quick dip in the hot tub) and watch the Cubs.
The Thursday before race day is the Athlete’s Dinner (aka more free food), so we grabbed a quick salad (Lava Java) and Grilled Ono sandwich (Island Ono Loa Grill) while watching the back-and-forth Cubs game.
THANK YOU for all of the support and encouragement along the way and GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN to everyone racing tomorrow!
