Due to the way Columbus Day fell this year, Ryan and I left on Saturday, October 7th to fly out to Kona. Since this will likely be our last go for a year or so, we wanted to do some touristy things.
We arrived in Kona just before 8pm on Saturday. Unfortunately, only our wheels arrived with us. This meant a quick trip to the airport before heading to Hapuna Beach for a ride on our bikes up to Hawi on Sunday morning. Ryan put both of our bikes together in less than 40 minutes, which is probably some sort of record.
We had to move rather quickly as we had yet another flight to catch…this time, from Kona to Honolulu to be tourists!
Bright and early Monday morning, we caught a tour bus at 6:05am to explore Pearl Harbor. Our tour guide was fantastic and I felt like I learned so much new information while also being entertained. This guy would make a GREAT teacher if he ever needed a new career. On our way back, we got a little tour of “famous” things such as where they film scenes for the TV show Hawaii 5-0. (see my Facebook for more photos!)
I should probably throw in that Ryan had/has been battling some sort of sickness since the Thursday before we left (October 5th). It started flu-like but seems to be more congestion-related. He's gotten better as the week's gone on, but I think being all tourist-y allowed us both to not focus too much on the fact that we would be racing in a few short days.
