This is a little late for a "2017 Racing Recap" as it's practically mid-January... but I believe that in order to move forward, it is important to reflect on what was learned throughout the year, no matter how "tough" things seemed to be.
I couldn’t do 10x100 on 2:00 on January 3, 2017. By the end of the year, I was doing 10x100 on 1:45, which was giving me 8-11 seconds of rest between each one.
My biking was staying consistent, but no big improvements since I had actually started running more (my biggest improvements came when I tore my plantar and couldn’t run as I was forced to bike more).
And running…well, things were finally back to normal until we went to Boulder for my Spring Break and I came back with a stress fracture or reaction (still never officially diagnosed) on my cuboid. I was really optimistic that 2017 would be a year of no injury, so this one stung pretty hard as everything had just been going so well.
It was an added bonus that Muncie was the LAST 2017 70.3 World Championship qualifier... a race that just happened to be on Megan's 30th birthday... so that part of the mission was definitely accomplished.
I had the 70.3 World Championships coming up, but to me that was really just a chance to test my fitness and see where I was at. Unfortunately, I struggled a bit with things within and outside of my control on the bike. However, this actually left me MORE determined and motivated to do well in Kona. Until life threw a curveball...
I do plan on competing in more road races as a 2018 Chicago Athlete ambassador (basically, I write race recaps on Midwest races, which is kinda what I do on my blog anyway, so I’m super pumped for this opportunity!). Hopefully, by the end of the week I’ll be able to write a 2018 blog with a list of races, but for now, time to hit the bike after another fun weekend at Snow Fun Run!
